Contest
The last couple of chapters of When the Emperor Was Divine leave it up to the reader to wonder how things may have played out in the end. Through our "Finish the Story" contest, we invite you, the reader, to create a final chapter for the book.
Some questions you might choose to explore are:
What became of the girl? The boy? Mother? Father?
Did they remember what had happened, or did they try to forget?
Over time, how did things change? How did they stay the same?
How did future generations relate to what had happened?
(Please note: these are merely suggestions.)
Your story addition to When the Emperor Was Divine may be told through written format, video, photography, art piece, music or any other creative medium that can be submitted electronically for judging.
Please e-mail your submission to frp@wustl.edu no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2009.
The top five contest winners will win lunch at the Whittemore House with Julie Otsuka, author of When the Emperor Was Divine, on Tuesday, September 15, 2009.
In addition to lunch with Julie Otsuka, the grand prize winner will receive a $250 gift certificate to the Washington University Campus Bookstore.
